Friends of the Desert Mountains Golf Tournament

Even though the temperatures decided to rise dramatically, no one seemed to mind at the Friends of the Desert Mountains golf tournament at Stone Eagle on April 21.

Golfers set off on a shotgun start at 1,000 feet above the valley floor against the backdrop of the beautiful Santa Rosa Mountains for a best ball shamble tournament.  

Prizes were awarded for special contests throughout the course. First prize for the lowest net score in the golf tournament went to the team representing the Glorious Land Company comprised of Paul Lin, Lou Monville, Harvey Niskala, and Francis Wong; Second place went to the Young’s Nursery team represented by Mark Draper, Mark Goulet, Greg Raumin, and Duane Young. Third place went to a team comprised of Jim Finnerty, Alan Hammerschmidt, and two representatives of The Gas Company a Sempra Utility, Patrick Swarthout and Robert Visconti. 

The “Rock Star Party” held Monday evening April 20, included cocktails, dinner, live music by Dave Heveron & Friends, and a chance to bid on fabulous auction items.  Friends’ volunteers were also recognized for their donation of time to the organization, with Ed Smith receiving the ‘Peak Performer” award for the most hours worked and Patrick Blythe being awarded the “Rock Star Volunteer of the Year” voted by his fellow volunteers.   Restaurante Guillermo’s provided complimentary margaritas and tequila tastings and Casuelas Café donated complementary Mexican dishes.  Other restaurants filled out the assorted buffet line and open bar.  All attendees were invited to purchase raffle tickets to win one of two prize baskets of assorted wines and accoutrements.

But the biggest winners of the night were Friends of the Desert Mountains and the community it serves as the premier conservation nonprofit dedicated to protecting the magnificent mountains, scenic vistas and recreation trails of the Coachella Valley.  The Friends want to thank all of the sponsors and contributors who not only made the event possible, but so enjoyable:
