On Monday, April 23, 2007, seventy-seven golfers enjoyed wonderful weather and a great game of golf at the Friends’ annual Golf Tournament at Stone Eagle, sponsored by Southern California Edison.
The Honorable Roy Wilson, Riverside County Board of Supervisors, served as guest of honor and Al Geiberger, “Mr. 59,” was tournament host.
Thanks to Desert European Motors, participants also had the opportunity to test drive a Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Maserati or Aston Martin throughout the day.
At 3 p.m., the cocktail party at Stone Eagle’s beautiful Aerie restaurant began and another forty people joined the golfers for cocktails and dinner. In addition to the open bar, partygoers were treated to margarita and tequila tastings provided by Restaurante Guillermo’s and an “around-the-world” whisky tasting by Johnnie Walker and Diageo. Complimentary massages were given by students from Maric College while Pyro the Magician roamed among the guests performing card and coin magic tricks.
Participants had a chance to bid on fantastic auction items such as trips to Hawaii & Mexico and future rounds of golf, as well as win prizes & a raffle.
First prize for the lowest net score in the tournament went to the team of Steve Owen, Jackie Clemens, Andy Komor, and Rick Dunwell all of Pacific Aquascape; second place went to Garry Fawcett and Rick Stoddard of Kaiser Ventures, Mark Lawrence of Ace Direct and Kay Hazen of Hazen & Company; and third place went to the Southern California Edison team of Vincent Haydel, Jack Sahl, Tom Davis, and Rick Prokay. Closest to the pin was won by Torsten Leines and the longest drive was made by Chris Hector.
But the biggest winner of the night was Friends of the Desert Mountains, as the event raised over $70,000.
Be sure to get your reservation in early for next year’s tournament, scheduled for April 22. Call the Friends office for more information and check back to the website for online registrations coming soon.
The Friends would like to thank all of the sponsors and participants who not only made the event possible, but so enjoyable!
